Homemade Oreos

I love baking! These are the homemade oreo's that I made for our friend Jarron's birthday yesterday. He is a BIG BYU football fan! I used food coloring to make half the filling cougar blue!

And just in case anyone is wanting the recipe...

For the Cookies

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened Dutch process cocoa

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter

1 large egg

1. Set two racks in the middle of the oven. Preheat to 375°F

2. Mix the flour, cocoa, baking soda and powder, salt, and sugar.

3. Add the butter, and then the egg. Continue mixing until dough comes together in a mass.

4. Take rounded tablespoons of batter and place on baking sheet. Bake 5 min then remove baking sheet, flatten batter and bake for another 4 min.

For the Cream Cheese Filling

1 stick of butter
1 package of cream cheese
3 to 4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
food coloring (optional)

1. soften butter and cream cheese separately.
2. mix butter, cream cheese and vanilla until stiff peaks appear
3. slowly add powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time

Scoop filling on one cookie and add the top cookie... cool and eat!

Yum!
