Maverik can communicate!

Maverik is growing up so fast and his personality is really starting to show- especially when he "talks" to us! I have been teaching him American Sign Language (ASL) since he was born and he is starting to show an understanding for it. I have always thought ASL was awesome and what better time to learn than together with your new baby! I have read so much about the amazing benefits of signing to your baby. Maverik is not only learning a second language but he is learning to communicate even before he can speak. People who sign are also better at all forms or nonverbal communication throughout life. I love how signing doesn't just include hand gestures but also facial expressions and body language. What a great life skill! Anyway, the coolest part is how much we (me, Mav and even Josh) are learning together!

Signs Mav does-
  • Milk
  • More
  • Eat
  • Bath
  • Ball
Signs he knows the meaning of when we sign them, but does not yet do himself-
  • Night-Night (also- nap time)
  • All done (he is so so close to doing this one, in fact I should probably count it as one he does but it's not quite right yet and I'm a perfectionist)
  • What?
  • Walk
  • Water
  • Up (as in- do you want me to hold you?)
Mav is also starting to use his voice, he says-
  • Mama (Mama or Mamamamama)
  • Dada ( Dada or Dadadadadada)
  • Ball (Ba)
  • Nana (Nahnahnah)
  • Yes (ya or yeeea)

This parenthood thing is SO MUCH FUN!
We love you Maverik Hawthorn!

Snap shots from my phone

Basically every last one of them is out of focus (just the way it goes with phone pics). But I just had to share how cute this boy is! And trouble... he is crawling trouble!

He got the lid off of his diaper cream and ALMOST had a taste of it!

Look Mama! No hands!

Mmmmm.... avocados and puffs!

Oh so you like the bathroom stuff inside the drawers?.... Sorry Mama!

He will not let us hold him when he takes a bottle. He just rolls around with it until he finds a comfy spot. He was like this for 20 min one day!

The hardest decision in a 10 month old's life is what book to read!

This is a funny face!

His daddy had a scoot skate too!

What a big boy!

Ten Months

Two more months and our baby will be a toddler! Where has the time gone? This has been the fastest, busiest, fullest year of my life... and more importantly Maverik's! Even though I have spent nearly every single second either with Mav or at least in the same 1100 square feet as him, I still feel like I have missed so much of his growing up! He is not so little anymore! He is so smart and funny. I adore his playful, curious, smart and energetic personality so much!

  • Clothes- 6 to 9 months (mostly in just his pants), 9 to 12 months ( pretty baggy but sooo stinking cute!)

  • Nicknames- Llama Llama, Maver, Mavs Man, Maverika paprika, Stinker, Mr. Magoo

Loves:

  • Mama
  • Daddy
  • Books
  • Food (anything he see's someone eating is his favorite) He likes to sample everything.
  • Baths
  • Going on walks
  • Playing in the grass
  • Dominating Mama with Daddy
  • Watching Shaun the Sheep
  • His ball blowing toy
  • Things that are not toys- the knob collection, mama and daddy's books, picture frames, drawers and everything inside them, the utensil basket from the dish washer, anything on the pantry shelves, knick-nacs and decorations
  • Meeting new people
  • Watching the washing machine

Firsts:

  • TOOTH!!!! It is so cute! Mav loves feeling it with his tongue and fingers. (It is quite the sharp little thing... he already drew blood from his own finger)

  • Daddy's Birthday
  • Ride in a swing
  • Curling his tongue and turning it completely over

Easter 2012

We celebrated Easter on Saturday with the Texas Joneses/Hatches. We went to Forney to Linds and Danes house. They prepared a yummy dinner and we had an egg hunt for the kiddos. It was fun to get together with everyone again. We missed Jerri, Bruce, Karim, Chris and Sofia!

The girls

Sweet little Brooklyn! Isn't she so wonderful?!

Joshey is always the best playmate/ jungle gym for the older kiddos.

Mav's first egg hunt!

Tagg's first egg hunt.

Easton was so cute with examining each egg before he placed it in his basket.

Way to go Eme! You are a super seeker!

Syders loved her cousins new play set!

Maverik had to taste each and every plastic egg he found! Yum!

Thanks for having us Hatches! What a fun time had by all!

Josh's boat

Josh is doing such a great job on his boat! I'm so totally impressed with how nicely it is coming along! Here are some pics from the past week of progress!

Look at that itty bitty Maverik sized clothes pin! It's sooo cute!

He had to individually cut and glue each one of those little planks!

Beautifully, perfectly and evenly sanded down to the right size and texture! Wow! This is so impressive!

Go check out more of Josh's progress on his boat forum.
(Just FYI the oldest posts are first so you have to scroll to the bottom to see the most up to date progress)

WAY TO GO JOSH!

One Year Older...

and wiser too! Joshua Cannon Jones - Happy Birthday to you!

Josh was so sweet on the morning of his bday, he wanted to wait for Maverik to wake up so they could open his gift together! I was so excited to see Josh's reaction to his gift I would have been happy to have him open it a week ago! Josh really is the older and more mature one of the two of us!

Josh with his gift certificates to go up and do flips, barrel rolls and nose dives  in an aerobatic biplane.

For that night I planned a surprise party for Josh in a park. The plan for his birthday this year was to take Josh back to all the activities he has enjoyed throughout his life. I wanted to give him the chance to play some ball, be a kid and enjoy all the fun things about life.

I don't know much about sports but I do know that drinking plenty of water and gatorade during and after playing is VERY important. Clearly that was the needed beverage for this active party.

I made a soccer ball, baseball mitt and ball and a foot ball out of cupcakes. They didn't turn out as cute as the examples I found on Pinterest but I think everyone could still tell what I was going for.

Veggies, fruit and "bball oranges" haha I know - I'm such a dork!

At the start of the party the football got stuck in a tree. Our birthday boy was the lucky one to be chosen to go up and get it.

When Josh was little he broke both of his wrists at his brother Chris's birthday party when he fell out of a tree. I was very nervous that history would repeat itself... but luckily everyone left the party without injury!

Love these three!

Eme and Syd are such good friends!

I put together a game called "Mission ImTAPEable" the idea is to undo a massive tape ball as quickly as possible while trying to dislodge all the goodies inside.

The kiddos took turns and had a great time winning their prizes!

One of the cousins even shared a soccer ball whistle with Maverik! Who thought it was a good teething toy.

Cute Linds and Tagg! I love their color coordinating outfits.

Mav's first ride in a swing by himself! He loved it at first and then not so much...

The big boys had a blast on the swings...

and so did the girlies!

Collins is such a happy and sweet boy! I love his expression in this picture!

Josh says slides these days are made much more static-y than they were when he was little.

Our little independent spirit just has to be big like his cousins Easton and Collins!

Maverik, Josh and Josh's best friend from HS- Aaron.

Dane and the littlest boys!

Maverik "helped" me take this picture and I have no idea why it is all funky, but I can't fix it. My apologies to all you photographers who hate black and white pop color pics. I didn't mean to!!!
(I had to post it because it is the only candle blowing picture I have.)

The beautiful Ashley and our newest little family member Brooklyn! Oh we just love her! Don't just want to kiss her face off!?

We closed the park down!
I hope everyone had a good time and most of all I hope you had a happy birthday Joshey. I love you babe!
